The utility is making our argument for us
In February 2026, El Paso Electric began paying to put batteries on customer property.
Through its Residential Distributed Energy Storage Pilot Program, EPE partnered with Base Power to bring up to 10 MW of customer-sited storage online before the 2026 summer peak — because it is faster and cheaper than building new generation or transmission. EPE's own CEO has described distributed storage as an increasingly important tool for utilities facing load growth, extreme weather, and infrastructure constraints.
When your utility concludes that batteries on your side of the meter are the cost-effective answer to a strained grid, the question is no longer whether distributed storage works here. It is who controls yours, and whether your facility is included. That pilot is residential and Texas-only. Your business is not covered by it.
