For Border Solar customers

Border Solar is now Border Energy Group.

Same company, same building, same phone number. If we installed your system between 2008 and 2019, we are still here — and we still service it. The staff you reach today has been through every up and down this industry has had, and we run the business differently because of it.

Why the name changed

Our story starts in 2004 with SENERCON, rating new homes for energy performance. In 2008 we began installing solar as Border Solar. Over the years since, the work outgrew the name.

Today a serious energy project is rarely just panels. It is generation, storage, backup power, efficiency, and controls, evaluated together and financed as one package. We install battery systems, generators, and UPS equipment. We do energy audits and code compliance. Calling ourselves a solar company had started to describe about half of what we actually do.

So the company became Border Energy Group. Not a new business — the same corporation, the same records, the same El Paso address. A wider name for wider work.

The part nobody else will explain

Two of our manufacturers went bankrupt. Here is what that means for you.

2016

SunEdison filed for bankruptcy. At the time it was one of the largest solar companies in the world and a partner of ours.

2024

SunPower filed for Chapter 11 and shut down customer support. Roughly 600,000 customers nationwide lost access to their monitoring portal, their app, and the company that had written their equipment warranty. Hundreds of dealers closed with it. We were an elite-tier SunPower dealer, and we chose the brand because at the time it was the safest bet in the industry.

Today

We are still operating. Same phone number, same records, same technicians.

Being straight with you about what we did and did not promise:

We warranted our workmanship for ten years, and we honored that in full. Every system we installed carried our installation warranty, and we stood behind it.

We did not warrant the equipment. Panel and inverter warranties are written by the manufacturer and run from the manufacturer to you. No installer underwrites them — not us, not anyone. When SunEdison and SunPower failed, what disappeared was their side of that agreement, not ours.

In the early years we tried to absorb the gap anyway. We did months of unpaid work covering failures we had not caused and could not bill for. It nearly ended this company. If we had gone under, every one of our customers would have been left with no installer at all — which is worse for you, not better.

So the service continues, and it is paid work. Fairly priced, properly performed, and warranted for what we do. That is the arrangement that keeps us here in year twenty-five, when you may actually need us.

If you left us a review during those years, we understand why. We would rather earn a new one.

What is still covered on your system

More than most owners think. A bankrupt installer or brand does not automatically void your hardware coverage, because those warranties were never held by the installer in the first place.

Often still covered

Panels manufactured by a company that still exists, microinverters and optimizers from manufacturers still in business, racking, and in some cases monitoring hardware. Where the maker is solvent, the product warranty generally still stands and can still be claimed. We can identify what is on your roof and tell you who to file with.

Usually not covered

Equipment whose manufacturer no longer exists and whose obligations were not assumed by a buyer — most notably storage products from failed brands. Also anything requiring the original company's proprietary monitoring or service software. In those cases the hardware may still be repairable, but the claim is gone and the labor is a paid repair.

We are not lawyers and we do not administer anyone else's warranty. We can tell you what is installed, what its status is, and what it will cost to fix.

Service for existing systems

Whether we installed it or someone else did. We regularly work on arrays whose original installer is no longer in business.

Start here

System assessment

A paid site visit: inverter and string testing, production measured against what the system should be making, thermal inspection, and a written report on equipment status and warranty position. The fee is credited toward any repair you authorize within 30 days.

Recurring

Monitoring & maintenance

The most common failure we find is a system that quietly stopped producing and nobody noticed for years. An annual plan puts production under watch with alerts, an annual report, and a scheduled inspection. One caught fault typically pays for several years of coverage.

As needed

Repair & recommissioning

Inverter replacement, string repair, monitoring migration off a dead platform, and bringing orphaned systems back online. Our work is warranted. Quoted before we start — no surprises on the invoice.

Still have our system on your roof?

Tell us the address and roughly when it was installed. We can usually pull the original records, tell you what equipment is up there, and tell you whether it is still producing what it should be.
